Donald Trump Jr. appears to be one of the central figures under investigation as a part of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, but as of yet, no charges have been filed against him. Indeed, he may never face charges.

But according to a new report from the Associated Press, President Donald Trump fears his eldest son may at some point be on trial as a result of Mueller's probe.

The president also views the ongoing trial against Paul Manafort, his former campaign chairman, as a "warning shot," according to the report. He expects more aggressive actions to come from the special counsel.

The president denied claims that he's worried about his son in a tweet last Sunday, but he also brought up the main incident that has put Trump Jr. on the special counsel radar: the June 2016 meeting in Trump Tower with Russian emissaries offering dirt on Hillary Clinton. Many legal experts believe this incident raises a host of serious legal issues — in addition to any potential perjury Trump Jr. or anyone else involved may have committed after the fact in discussing the issue with Congress or investigators.

Nevertheless, the AP reports that Trump Jr. himself remains upbeat and largely unperturbed by the ongoing investigation.

In fact, it says that the scrutiny of the president's son may have contributed to his growing celebrity within the conservative movement. Despite the fact that he is supposedly running the Trump Organization, along with his brother Eric, completely removed from any of his father's political considerations, Trump Jr. has been campaigning across the country for Republican candidates.
