Try as she might, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow could not wipe the expression of bafflement and disbelief off her face as she reported an outrageous story of a missing box of grenades Tuesday night.

"This is how the gods welcome me home from vacation," she said.

Here are the basics: The Air Force is now offering $5,000 for any help with the return of a box of grenades that the 91st Missile Wing Security Forces team lost in its travels between two nuclear weapons sites in North Dakota. The box apparently fell off the back of a truck.

About 100 officers were sent out to the road where it was likely misplaced, but they've had no luck in recovering the explosives. Don't be too concerned, though — according to the air force, the grenades won't explode unless they are used in a specially designed launcher. That is, unless there's a "catastrophic failure."
